About Us went live in March 2007 due to the screaming demand for flies tied and designed by Ronald Sutherland from Helmsdale in the Highlands of Scotland. Ronald got his inspiration from his late father Andrew Sutherland, a hugely experienced guide on the River Helmsdale for 40 years and ghillie to Prince Charles and the late Megan Boyd one of the most famous tiers in the world who lived just down the road at Kintradwell, Brora. Ronald has been a hardcore fly fisherman for over 40 years and caught his first salmon when it was almost bigger than himself. The Helmsdale company begun trading from the banks of the famous river Helmsdale where Ron was brought up. Fly fishing is in our DNA and Ron tries to get a cast as often as possible on his local rivers Helmsdale, Brora, Naver & Thurso and also fishes regularly on the Spey, Dee & Ness, Ron has also fished on the Kola Peninsular on the mighty Kharlovka, Litza, Rynda and Zolitya. He also gives instruction in all aspects of salmon and trout fishing in the Highlands. has built one of the most comprehensive selections of quality international Atlantic salmon flies found anywhere, fly quality has to be seen to be believed, we have raised the bar for on-line fly shopping to the highest level. The amazing range has been amassed using the absolute best commercial fly suppliers including Fulling Mill, Caledonian fly, Shadow fly and of course Ron is always on the vice creating new patterns and tying up your special customised orders when he can. Ron is also a prolific and innovative fly designer and arguably one of the best contemporary designers out there in modern times. He made the first major commercial UK move designing traditionals on coneheads and turning them into mainstream favourites. Willie Dog conehead Ally dog conehead, Silver Stoat, Baby Temple Dog, all huge favourites amongst others.

Fully dressed Scandinavian Temple dogs were Ron's next influence. Ron quickly saw the lethal powers of these large and very mobile fox fur flies and realised the market was missing small and micro versions, RS Baby Temple Dogs were soon created and became an instant success on all densities of tube and coneheads. Next came his superb range of feeler flies where Ron morphed the hypnotic Icelandic Frances fly style with his most popular UK sellers. First was the black & yellow feeler closely followed by golden willie gunn and many more on doubles and tubes. These have been a huge success. His Sunray Tsunami followed on the back of the emerging deadly Sunray Shadow and salmon wake tubes have never looked back since. His unique Mylar tubes were his next big selling stunners, and still have a huge following to this day.

His biggest selling creation recently has been the deadly RS SuperSnaelda where he took the best from Icelandic Snaelda and Frances and combined on a deadly conehead tube. But that is still not enough for Ron. The bar was once again raised with his smash hit Solar Monkey and SuperSquid range. It just keeps getting better and the new 2018 collection will launch even more superb concepts you will not be able to keep away from salmon. In 2012 Ronald was head hunted to team up with world leading commercial fly-tying Juggernaut Fulling Mill to develop and modernise their new salmon fly range. Ron has now designed a superb range of International salmon flies for the UK and abroad but has moved on to design his best ever collection in conjunction with Shadow fly, his first commercial supplier. "In all my experience of professional fly-tying I have never seen quality produced anywhere like Shadow" I felt it was high time the whole UK market had the benefit of selling these great flies for the first time. Ron will be in charge of UK distribution from Speyside, call him anytime if you want to sell these superb flies. We challenge you not to buy dozens of them.

Ronald Sutherland.
